FLINT (WJRT) –<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(05\/25\/18) – Today is National Heat Awareness Day, a reminder for you to be aware of the sometimes deadly consequences associated with heat stroke and dehydration.<\/p>\n

With loads of sunshine and high temperatures you can also expect HVAC companies are being inundated with service calls.<\/p>\n

“Very busy. The heat is definitely getting people on the phone,” said Coby Ackerman, a service technician with First Choice Heating & Cooling.<\/p>\n

“I think one of the biggest things is probably not changing the filter,” said Ackerman.<\/p>\n

He’s seen homeowners make all kinds of mistakes, but here’s what you should do for sure:<\/p>\n

“You need to change the filters. That’s very important. Check the batteries in the thermostat if you have them. It’s a good idea to look and see if the condenser outside is clean,” Ackerman said. “Definitely want to check the charge. It may or may not be undercharged. Even though you think it’s good a dirty coil can mask that.”<\/p>\n

The decision to cut the air on and off throughout the day may not be a great idea.<\/p>\n
